Introducing: Beneath the Lyrics
Ma chere, mademoiselle. It is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we proudly present… a new type of mini-post.
In case you didn’t know, I am an avid theatre fan, particularly musicals. I could go on to tell you how theatre has changed the course of my life over the past two years, but for the sake of the brevity I won’t. (If you ARE interested in my drama testimony, consider joining my email list, where you get deeper, more personal looks at my life as well as sneak peeks at my latest big projects.) Long story short, musicals are great. They’re entertaining, impactful, and are filled with narrative depth. (At least the good ones are.) Perhaps the big reason is that the composers write songs that are not only relevant to the events of the script, but provide the heart and depth beneath what’s written on paper. That, combined with the soul of the actors, provides an experience like no other.
In these mini-posts, I’ll be delving into specific musical theatre songs, and picking out some small details I find that elevate the entire story as a whole, as well as the specific number individually. These will just come out of nowhere typically, as they are, by nature, much shorter than normal content I release. Nonetheless I am ecstatic to bring forth my takes on a few of my favorite musical numbers, from Wicked to Frozen. I hope you all are as intrigued as I am. Until then, it’s curtains for now.
